What is Location of Biomass Energy in Turkey?

Due to the geographical features of Turkey has a serious potential for biomass. Day by day biomass energy is gaining importance and the number of biomass power plants is increasing. Currently, biomass energy is obtained by biomethanization (anaereobic digestion) and fermentation as biochemical conversion, gasification (thermochemical conversion), pyrolysis, esterification and direct combustion processes.

In our country, biomass energy is mostly obtained in facilities that using followings;

  • Landfill gas,
  • Pyrolytic oil,
  • Animal waste,
  • Agricultural and animal waste,
  • Animal waste and vegetable waste,
  • Forest waste,
  • Agricultural and forest waste.

While the total number of biomass energy (BEPP)  is 147, there are 85 biogas plants. By the end of 2019, the total installed power of the BEPP is expected to be 719 MW and the biogas power plant will be 390 MW.
